Welcome to the Rock County Humane Society !

Volunteers

Volunteers must be 18 years old to volunteer on their own. Parents must read and sign the release on the back of the Volunteer Application.

Most volunteer positions will require a minimum commitment of four hours a month. Please consider whether or not you are able to honor this commitment before turning in the application.

You must read and complete our volunteer application and read and sign the confidentiality agreement.

It is your responsibility to contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Sue Post at (608)-752-2255, to further discuss your eligibility and availability. At this time we will answer any questions that you may have about volunteering. We place volunteers based upon current needs of the shelter and volunteer’s abilities, strengths, and availability. Please understand that we are not always able to accommodate everyone’s wishes to volunteer.

Cat Socializers: Take cats from their cages to one of the visit rooms for love, attention, and exercise. Must be able to commit to a regular weekly schedule. Hours available are from 9:00am to close.

Dog Walkers: Take dogs from their kennel outside for a walk on shelter grounds. Prefer volunteers that can commit to a regular weekly schedule. Must be open to learning how to use a Gentle Leader with the dogs. Hours available are from 1:00pm to close.

Dog Training: Work with a shelter dog on basic manners to improve their appeal to adopters. Must be available Monday Nights 5:15-6:30pm and at least one other afternoon to practice skills learned in class.

Bathing & Grooming: Help animals stay healthy and adoptable by keeping them well bathed and groomed. Training will be provided. Must be able to commit to a regular weekly schedule.

Clerical: Do you have data entry skills and attention to detail? Phone skills are a plus. Training will be provided. A regular weekly schedule is preferred.

Shelter Greeter: Do other people comment on your outstanding interpersonal skills? You may fit in well as a shelter greeter. Must be willing to learn adoption and shelter policies.

Pet Outings: Help an animal get adopted! Volunteers are needed to take animals to area businesses for Pet Outings on weekends. Volunteers must be willing and able to transport animals in their own vehicles. Must be willing to commit to volunteering 2-4 hours, one weekend a month.

Baking & Crafts: We occasionally need volunteers willing to bake and make pet-related crafts for sale. This may be a good option for those of you who want to help but are afraid that you will bring home every animal from the shelter if you volunteer on-site.

Special Events: We need reliable volunteers to help staff our special events. You will be contacted on an as needed basis.

Foster Homes: We often need homes for cats or kittens, rarely dogs. Home should have a quiet, unused room available for foster animals. Volunteer must be available to transport animals as needed. A home visit is required before approval.
