Pet ordinances are established by your municipal, county, and state government. Many municipalities require you to license your companion cats and dogs, and the State of Wisconsin requires that cats and dogs be vaccinated against rabies. For questions on pet ordinances in your area, contact your town or city government.
In addition to following the law, we encourage our community to be responsible animal guardians and good neighbors:
- Keep a collar and current ID tag(s) on your companion at all times.
- Keep your animal leashed and under your control when off your property.
- Do not allow your animal to trespass on public or private property or run at large, unleashed, or unattended.
- Do not confine your animal in a vehicle in extreme (hot or cold) weather.
- Socialize your animal to other animals, people, and different environments, to reduce his or her stress when away from home or meeting others.
- Provide your animal with adequate food, water, and shelter if kept outside for extended periods.
- Prevent your animal from injuring any person, property, or other animal.
- Do not allow animals on school grounds, beaches, cemeteries, or parks where prohibited.
- Never allow your animal to threaten another person or animal.
