All dogs and cats adopted from Rock County Humane Society are microchipped to assist them in finding their way home should they ever become lost!
What are microchips and how do they work?
Microchips are small chips, about the size of a grain of rice, which are implanted beneath the skin of the animal between the shoulder blades. Each chip has a unique identifying number, which is registered to the pet's owner. If your pet becomes lost or separated from you, shelters, veterinarians, and even some police departments can scan the animal and quickly reunite you!
Microchips are a permanent method of identifying pets and their owners. They should be used in addition to collars and ID tags, which allow anyone who finds your pet easy access to your contact information, but may fall off or be removed.
Microchip services for the community
We strongly recommend microchipping all companion cats and dogs, and offer 24 PetWatch microchips to the public for only $30.
No appointments are necessary during business hours, although we recommend calling ahead so we can have someone ready to help you when you arrive. Appointments are available on Wednesdays between the hours of 9am-4pm.
For everyone's safety, cats must be in carriers and dogs must be on leashes when visiting the shelter.
