Rock County Humane Society is contracted to provide animal control services for some municipalities within Rock County. We are not a government agency nor are we contracted by the County.
Before calling for animal control, try following the suggestions on our Found a Stray page to reunite the found animal with its owner.
If you need assistance with a contained pet found in one of the following municipalities below, call Rock County Humane Society at (608) 752-5622. We will arrange to have you drop off the animal between the hours of 8am-5pm. If it is outside of these hours, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

* For the cities of Beloit and Janesville only, RCHS Humane Care Officers can pick up confined animals between the hours of 8am-5pm. After 5pm, please call the police department to pick up the animal. Animals can only be picked up if they are confined. Confining can include putting the animal in your garage, under an inverted laundry basket (if it is very small or injured and will not escape) or in a kennel, crate, or live trap.
Some towns, villages, and cities choose to provide their own animal control. If the municipality in which you found the animal is not listed above, you must contact the Sheriff's department or the municipality's Chairperson in order to arrange services. RCHS is still able to collect lost/found reports for these areas to help facilitate matches.
If you see an animal running at large please contact your local police or sheriff's department.
Each township, village, county and city has its own reporting structure and methods of enforcement for abuse and neglect cases. RCHS is able to assist the cities of Beloit and Janesville with the investigation of animal abuse and neglect. If an animal is in immediate danger, the police are often able to respond more quickly than our Humane Care Staff. To report abuse or neglect in all other municipalities, please contact the local police or sheriff's department.
If you live in the City of Janesville and would like to report a barking dog, animal running at large with a known owner, or other non-neglect ordinance violations, you may use their new online incident reporting system.
In the State of Wisconsin, care for wild animals may only be provided by licensed wildlife rehabilitators. If you have found a wild animal you believe is in need of assistance, please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or the WI Department of Natural Resources.
What services does RCHS provide to lost/stray animals?
Providing for lost and stray animals is the responsibility of municipal government. Many municipalities in Rock County have asked RCHS to assist them with their stray animal care. When lost animals come to RCHS from these municipalities we do everything we can to reunite them with their owners:
- Pets are checked for ID tags and scanned for microchips and every animal is checked against our reports of missing animals.
- We post photos of stray animals at our facility here on our web site, which are updated every hour.
- Found companion animals are held RCHS to give their owners a chance to reclaim them, and we strongly encourage those missing a pet to visit our shelter often as new animals arrive every day.
- If an owner can't be found, healthy and friendly companion animals are placed for adoption into a new and loving home.
